Nanseikan Dojo

Nanseikan Youth Kendo Club was founded primarily to teach kendo to children aged 7-17 years.

Traditionally, the qualities developed by the practice of swordsmanship are: jin - mercy, gi - honour, rei - courtesy, chi - wisdom, shin - sincerity.

We train at the St Pius X Primary School gym, Heidelberg West, every Saturday morning between 9 and 11 o'clock.

The instructor is Ben Sheppard, kendo 5th dan. Ben is a tenured secondary school teacher, currently at the nearby Brunswick Secondary College. He is also a federal government-accredited coach in kendo (NCAS Level 1).

Nanseikan is the only kendo dojo dedicated specifically to teaching kendo to children in Australia.
