I hadn't long started Kendo, and it was 1993. We had another club come to visit, which was very exciting as any more than our usual 4 or 5 members was a big thing. I was introduced to Laurie Scott who was a (Black Belt) or something similar, way out or reach of someone who had just started.

Whilst talking to him he told me, and showed me how to tie the top himo on my Gi, but not in a smart or arrogant way, but more in a way of showing respect toward myself and to Kendo. This I feel typifies Kendo with its ability to care and share between each other without causing any disrespect to other Kendoka. I will always remember this small but important moment in my Kendo training.
